A uniquely British wool

Our wool is more than just the story of how it’s manufactured. It’s the upkeep and preservation of our Gullet Farm ecosystem, from the way we cultivate our land, to our ethical farming practices and most importantly, the guardianship of our flocks.

The result is a collection of yarns that are entirely unique to Gullet Farm. From the resilience you feel when working with it, to its softness next to skin and the exceptional natural colours that come through in our blends, we have refined our product so that it represents the best of our home.

A story of our blended wool

By taking the finest characteristics from a variety of breeds and tweaking the ratios, we can create yarns with definition in beautifully natural shades.

Our collection of Romney blends, for example, sees their wool paired with Manx Loaghtan and Hebridean to create warm, distinctive hues. We are lucky enough to work with neighbouring farms that are home to a selection of rare breeds, utilising wool that might have otherwise gone unused, making this process a zero waste operation we are proud of.

The finessing of our yarns

Finally, a note on the spinning of our wool. Our friends at the mills have kindly allowed us to make tweaks to the way our wool is spun. The result is an enhanced quality of semi-worsted yarn that is spun to an S twist, then pilled to a Z twist, which works well for knitters and crocheters alike.

From sheep to fleece to skein, you can be assured that every step of our manufacturing process is performed by UK-based, master artisans who are devoted to continuing and perfecting the art of creating exceptional quality yarn.
